District 62 comprises Concord Township, Eastlake, Kirtland, Kirtland Hills, Lakeline, Mentor-on-the-Lake, Timberlake, Waite Hill, Wickliffe, Willoughby, Willoughby Hills and Willowick.
THE CANDIDATES:
Lorraine Fende 52, a Democrat seeking her third term in the House after previously serving more than nine years as mayor of Willowick and eight as a councilwoman. She has a bachelor’s degree from Ohio University.
Michael Gutierrez, 31, a Republican, is a human resources manager making his first race for elected office. He is a graduate of Brooklyn High School and the Ohio Center for Broadcasting.
Gutierrez
OUR VIEW:
Fende is a popular political figure who is virtually certain to be re-elected. But while she clearly cares deeply about western Lake County, her two terms in the legislature have been disappointing. Gutierrez is a product of Cleveland’s inner city with a compelling life story. He is smart, young, energetic and brimming with ideas about job creation and improving Ohio’s economy. We don’t agree with all of those ideas, but believe he would become an effective legislator.
- Way to go Mike!
